PlaneTalk Online

PlaneTalk Online is so easy to follow, explained in simple terms, and very effective in practice.   I have been working through the course for only a few days but already have a completely different outlook on how to play guitar.

 

The PlaneTalk theory is so blindingly simple I wonder why I did not spot it fifty years ago, when I first took up playing guitar.   During that time I learned chords on a "need to know" basis, and riffs by rote.

 

Now Kirk has opened my eyes and at last I know what I am doing, on the fretboard, and why I am doing it.

 

As with any method, Practice makes Perfect.   PlaneTalk is worth it, at twice the price, and makes the practice a joy. 

 

I have been using Planetalk for a few months now and it has helped me understand guitar fretboard in a better way. The method is unique and is simple. After a few weeks of practice, it just sticks in your mind. You start to understand the Planetalk mindset. Really helpful in taking your guitar playing to the next level. 

This method has helped me grow as a guitarist and musician more than I expected. Kirk's instruction is superb and the way he presents the logic of the fretboard is an exercise in inspired clarity. He is a great communicator and teacher. Worth the purchase price? Absolutely. Without a doubt.

After a 40 year hiatus from playing guitar (basic chord stuff) and stumbling around YouTube for several months in 2019, in early 2020 I finally landed on  Kirk's Plane Talk Online Guitar Course.   What a revelation.  There is gold here for everyone.   From the very beginner, to intermediate guitar players, to advanced musicians, Kirk's online course if one of the very best I've seen.  The course is well organized and well presented.  Top marks for production quality and content.  Using his Fretboard Slide Rule is like walking through a magic door.  I also loved his cartoon book--perfect for beginners and intermediate players to get a grasp of basic music theory and this enigmatic instrument.  You won't be disappointed with this course.  My advice its to buy it today and get your mojo working. 

 

Have you heard of "life hacking"? Or the 80/20 rule? That's what this is, but for playing guitar. Extremely highly recommended!

I'm 73 and have played the guitar on and off since my teens. I've played most styles with fingers and plec. I've had some formal lessons in classical and jazz but never felt I really grasped the instrument. I was one of those who always thought the next book or video would hold the key but of course they never did.

So although I have enjoyed Kirk's Youtube lessons for a few years I was sceptical of the claims for PlaneTalk. However in January just before Covid19 struck and we entered lockdown I took the plunge - enticed by a cut price offer.

I'm very glad I did. This is one of those few things in life that lives up to it's promise.

Obviously it hasn't transformed me overnight into the player I would like to be but maybe if I'd got into it earlier....

In short, highly recommended. You won't be disappointed. Proof that old dogs CAN learn new tricks.

Einstein said that "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.” This is what I think Kirk has done with PlaneTalk. He has created/discovered a simple system for creating chord tone based melodies. With 3 simple shapes he goes from describing how to create melodies over major/minor progressions to extended, diminished and augmented chords. With the extra videos Kirk goes through several examples of how to handle diatonic progressions, blues and more. Kirk describes in detail what he is thinking when his playing over the chords - this isn't something I've seen in a lot of other material.

 

I have used this to go back and analyze solos that I already know and figure out why they work. I wish I found this approach years ago. This isn't the place to start if you're a complete beginner, but if you know your basic moveable chord shapes you'll be able to quickly absorb the information.

Plane Talk is an excellent way to help learn the fretboard. I am retired and learned a few chords when I was younger. Now I have the opportunity to learn with this new tool. Very helpful!

I was sceptical about this but thought I’d give it a try. I am pleased I did. I feel that it has opened up the fretboard for me so I can go passed the scary 5th fret. Thankfully it’s not rocket science so even I could follow it and get a lot out of it.

i would recommend anyone have a go at this. I bought the online version. 

Absolutely a must have  set of lessons and methods for the guitar. The material connects all the dots with vivid diagrams and well thought out videos. I highly recommend this product.   

I agree with other reviewer's who have contributed to this forum. Many of us have accumulated some knowledge of theory. In my case the learning process was disjointed, almost random. This is a serious drawback to being self taught. Translating theory into playing requires a guided step-by-step coherent and understandable approach. Kirk's PlaneTalk method of understanding the fretboard provided the cohesion, finally bringing together years of partially learn theory. As Kirk points out, the first time we examine our instruments, there are six stings, some markers and between 12 and 24 frets. There is no guide and seemingly no order to all of the possibilities. PlaneTalk will give you the ability to understand and enjoy playing the guitar. PlaneTalk is coherent and straight forward. It just works and will be your guide for a lifetime.

I'm a senior who aspires to learn and play my acoustic guitar for my maximum enjoyment.  I've written a few songs and love singing.  The triad shapes taught in PlaneTalk and the handy guitar slide rule are fantastic tools that I am using to learn cool sounding chords all over the fretboard!  The online version of PlaneTalk is accessible to me wherever my guitar and I go. 

I purchased the online version of Planetalk and find it extremely useful. It's a clear and relatively easy way to understand the fretboard and how to make the most of what you are playing whether you are a novice or intermediate. I highly recommend this product.

In my 45 years of playing the guitar (mostly fingerstyle and classical) I always had a desire to really know my instrument and be able to play it freely.  I tried to make sense of the fretboard in the traditional way, studying scales and discovering the CAGE- system.

 

It offered some understanding, but I never could make it work musically. When  I came across the PlaneTalk approach it really changed my view on the fretboard and now I know what to do (what to practise) to make my improvisations sound musical and to be aware of what I am playing.

 

So, thanks Kirk for teaching this new mindset. I really like the approach and the way you teach. A pleasant presentation from an experienced  player that is genuinely interested in  improving your playing.

Heard about the course from a follow long time guitar player. As a six year player this is a gold mine of information. Most importantly it it simply explains & lays out the fretboard so i can use the whole fretboard & know why. No more guessing. Sorry, you still have to practice though. Plane Talk will not disappoint. 

After experimenting with many different methods of trying to understanding the entire fingerboard the Plane Talk method has unlocked the mystery! Combined with some basic music theory, I am on my way to lots more creative enjoyment playing any style of music. It does take some practice to lock in the concept but much easier than every other method I have tried! Highly Recommended!

I would recommend Kirk's online course whole heartedly. What a unique, innovative and intuitive way of navigating the fretboard. It's weird, playing guitar all these years, I knew the music theory, building chords, harmonized scale etc., but that "secret way" of navigating the fretboard and being comfortable at finding the right notes and the right time never jumped out at me. Sometimes just sitting around with the guitar and using this method to experiment moving around the finger board is just as fun as playing tunes. It's not the silver bullet however, it still takes some work and practice.... but that actually ends up being the fun part.

 

One caveat though, It's  probably not something for beginners who have just purchased a guitar and are just starting out. Thanks again Kirk, for giving me another tool for navigating that highway of weird dots and strips of wire called the fretboard! Cheers from Canada!

Having had this product only for a few days, I can see that this is a surprisingly deep and profoundly elegant method. It doesn't take away the work of the woodshed, but makes the path clear. I am extremely pleased to have found this!

Simple and highly effective method to navigate the fretboard! The Plane Talk course provides the gps to connect the player with the fretboard for any chord, scale, arpeggio, while also a beacon for improvising that is intuitive. Course is easy to follow, the site is well organized/has all the info/help available, and the illustrations/videos are very effective in presenting each subject area. Great course!

 

I was self-taught for 20 years; a longtime 'strummer' wanting to unlock the full fretboard like the masters. I found a few pieces of the puzzle along the way but nothing to glue it all together and not get lost and frustrated. Kirk's method is clear and very effective. I purchased PT only two weeks ago and it has -without any exaggeration - blown my playing wide open. I can navigate the fretboard, and I'm actually beginning to be able to play the music I hear in my head. So glad I got a ticket on this flight!

Kirk is a legend,  the course is legendary.  

Have been learning to play the guitar over the past 4 years to satisfy that yearn that most guys over 50 apparently seem to have.  Lots of great courses and videos out there, but plane talk was the only resource that got me playing up and down the fretboard with confidence.

I have played piano and classical guitar for over fifty years and was looking for a different, more intuitive, approach than reading music scores. This course did not disappoint. It cost less than a private lesson or two, and there are no recurring "subscription" fees as with Patreon courses. I like the soothing, non-histrionic narration as well.

This is indeed a new way to view the fretboard. ... The whole book is presented in a clear and simple format that allows the user to  step back and refresh their memory for any question they may have.  It is easy to integrate this method with the standard scale over chord procedure to gain further understanding in one's musical journey.   The information presented here including the videos does present a different perspective  and is worth one's time and effort to look into it.
